Ghanaian rapper Denning Edem Hotor, known in showbiz as Edem, has revealed that he received just GHc 150 during his first-ever performance.

The rapper rose to prominence in 2009 after releasing his debut album.

Edem since gone on to release two more albums, with his songs gaining massive airplay in the country and beyond.

The “Koene” hit maker has also performed on some of the biggest stages in Ghana, as well as being nominated for the Ghana Music Awards.

However, in a rather shock revelation the rapper has disclosed that he used to take less than GHc 200 during his formative years as a musician.

According to him, he was paid a paltry

GHc 150 when he performed for the very first time on stage.

Interacting with some of his fans in a Twitter Q&A session, Edem opened up on a number of issues concerning his life in music.

When asked by one his followers how much his first pay cheque was, the rapper said: “First show after compilation was GHc 150. I don’t really remember [the exact show].”

Edem has been a huge advocate of local musicians, with the rapper leading a campaign which seeks to emphasise the need to respect Ghanaian acts.
